Week 49 is done!

It was a solid week of training. It’s great to be able to throw at high intent again. My numbers aren’t great yet, but they’re building and I know since I’m long tossing again they’ll probably come up pretty quickly. My arm seems to respond pretty well to extreme long toss, so I’ve been adding that back in now that I can get outside again and I have a throwing partner.

My plyos and pull downs are both moving up, but nothing PR worthy yet. I’m back to doing my pull downs with a leg kick, rather than a step behind. I played around with both and my velo numbers are identical, so there’s really no reason to do a step behind. Like I said my long toss numbers are coming back quickly despite the fact that I really didn’t push the envelope on that for probably 10 months.

Last week was only my second week back to high intent throwing and I tied my long toss PR at about 90% effort (because I knew I was doing pull downs after)! And based on the distance of my long toss (365 ft) my velo numbers should be higher than they were, but I think it’s a matter of getting comfortable throwing at max effort again. My movement will get more efficient as I do it more so I just need to stay process oriented.

It’s crazy how up and down this off season has been. I haven’t been able to make the consistent progress I was looking for to this point, but I’ve got a solid plan together now and I’m feeling good so we’ll see what happens going forward.

As far as lifting goes, I’m staying with the mix of heavy weight and power movements. I’m doing some post activation potentiation stuff in this block, since movement speed is the biggest thing I need to work on. I like staying with heavy weight though because I just feel better when I’m doing that rather than crazy volume. I also want to add some upper body strength going forward so the heavy weight is helpful for that too. My pressing just isn’t as strong as it could be and I need my pecs for that acceleration, so that’s going to be small focus in this block too.
