It’s the end of week 55.
I’m still repatterning, but it’s starting to get more enjoyable. I’ve found some drills that have been helpful in making some changes to my arm action and movement in general. Step-behinds with an arm swing and pick-offs have been huge for me so far. They get me moving athletically and don’t give me time to think very much. My arm action seems to clean itself up because my arm just doesn’t have time to get to inefficient positions. Also, as far as the not thinking piece of this, I have so many cues I’m trying to think about sometimes that I can’t throw freely.
My mobility is improving as well. I’ve been hammering on pec stuff to help my arm action and it seems to be helping. Between the releases and mobility drills my arm is moving better and velo is starting to feel easier. For me to gain velo I’m going to have to get to some more extreme positions than I’ve gotten into in the past, and mobility has always been an issue for me.
The weight room has taken a backseat to my sport specific training, but it is still a necessary piece. RFD has been a big focus along with rotational movements. I feel like I’m starting to move more explosively, and my lateral bound distances and med ball throw velocities are reflective of this. The intention of trying to move as fast as possible on everything is one of the biggest reasons why, and I feel like intent in the weight room will carry over to the field. I’m still handling relatively heavy weights sparingly, just to maintain my max strength.
I’m looking forward to trying to getting back to pushing velocity again, but I know this repatterning is a necessary detour.
Anyway, thank you for following me on my journey to the show and check back later this week for more content.
