It’s hard to believe I started this more than 56 weeks ago, but here we are.
It was another solid week of work. I’m still rebuilding my throwing pattern, but I’m making some progress and finding some drills that really make me feel good. On Monday I used the radar gun at relatively low effort, like 80% or so and got up to 91mph on a step behind w/ arm swing. This was encouraging because the ball seemed to jump out of my hand, and I’m still not super comfortable with this movement. I’m probably going to stay in the rebuild and do without pushing intent for another week and a half or so. At that point I’ll see how I’m feeling and how everything is looking and decide if the pattern is ready to be loaded and stress tested.
Even while I haven’t been pushing intent super hard I’ve been maintaining/building my long toss distance. I had gotten away from long toss for a bit for a variety of reasons, but it’s helping me to move more athletically so I’m throwing it back in for now. My long toss distance is as good as it’s ever been so I know I’m not super far away from making some big gains, but I’m trying to stay patient.
The weight room portion of training has been solid as well. My movement speed is improving, I’m still handling reasonably heavy weights occasionally, so I feel like I’m progressing well on that front. My mobility is getting better as well because that’s been a priority too. My mobility has never been great so that’s probably the area outside of the sport specific aspect of training that will yield the greatest results at this point. I’m trying to get to more extreme points during my delivery and in order to do that I have to be able to actively use those ranges of motion. My mobility work has gotten pretty specific in terms of my areas of need and certain patterns, so I think it will have solid carry over.
I’ll try to get some throwing videos in the next blog entry so you can see what I’m working on and trying to change.
Anyway thank you for following me on my journey to the show! Check back later this week for more content and feel free to reach out with any training inquiries.
