Week 57 was another solid week of work.

It was my last week of just repatterning without any high intensity throws. I was getting back to throwing with more of a plan instead of showing up getting loose and going through a few drills with max intent. This repattern was definitely necessary and it will continue even while I start to push the intensity level. My lack of improvement leading up to this repattern was probably one of the better things that has happened to me during this journey because it forced me to reevaluate what I was doing to get better. I reached out for help from Ben and others and put together a plan to find and improve on my weaknesses as well as getting back to what made me good in the first place.

I have a set plan now and it’s great to leave training each day knowing I got better and did everything I could that day. Using some of the drills that I had gotten away from has been huge for helping me get to some more efficient positions. Segmentation is the way to improve big, complex movements and that’s basically what I’ve done, but on a more significant level than in the past. I’ve also added in some new variations of drills that I’ve done in the past and I think they’re going to lead to some big gains. For example this variation of the rocker drill I got from Ben and it felt uncomfortable but showed some big numbers on the radar gun earlier this week:

My training in the weight room has also been a helpful piece of this. For the last few weeks I’ve been focusing on improving power and RFD, as well as improving mobility, and maintaining max strength. The load hasn’t been super demanding by design because my focus is on the sport specific side of training. I’ve been feeling good and I’m currently on my last week of this training block, so next week I’ll get some new stuff in there.

Also, on a personal note, thank you to those of you who have reached out with words of encouragement or just letting me know you’ve been enjoying the training information. I know I’m getting close and I’m excited to see what happens in the next few weeks.

Thank you for following me on my journey to the show and check back later this week for more content!
