Week 63 is done!

Another week of repatterning and relatively low effort throwing. While I’m not throwing at a high intensity I’m making a concerted effort to work on looser arm action. I’ve always had an issue with creating too much tension too early in my delivery, so while my effort level isn’t that high it’s easier to focus on that. Like I said in previous posts I’ve also consolidated the cues I have for myself. I just had too many things going on in my head to throw effectively. So, now I’m focusing on loose arm action, my glove side, and pushing the ground away from me with my back leg.

While it’s frustrating that there are so many things for me to improve, it’s also really encouraging because I think about how hard I was throwing before without my training being this dialed in. My mobility is improving and has been a major focus for me for the last few weeks. Unilateral strength and power and rotational power and efficiency have been my other main focuses the last few weeks and they’re improving as well.

My single leg broad jumps, lateral bounds, and med ball velocities have all been going up so I’m sure once I’m throwing pain free I’ll get back to putting up some big numbers. Here’s a med ball shot put variation I’ve been using. I’ve segmented the movement so that it separates my hips and shoulders:

This video is older, but I’ve gotten up to 29mph on this, which isn’t super impressive but it’s improving each week.

My unilateral movements are feeling better each week as I get more comfortable with them, and I’m starting to put up better numbers. For example, my front racked reverse lunge should be back over 300lbs this week, which is about where it was before. It was just a matter of getting comfortable with the movement again.

The main thing now is to get to the point where I feel good throwing at high effort and then continue to improve velo from there. I’m getting closer every day and I expect to put up some big numbers very soon, so stay tuned.

Thank you for following me on my journey to the show and check back later in the week for more content.
