It’s my first full week back in two weeks!
After the surgery I had a week of doing nothing while I was in a sling. Then once I got the sling off I had to ease back into both lifting and throwing since my left elbow was still really swollen. So last week was basically another short on-ramp.
This week I got back to a higher throwing intensity and I’ll be starting a power block. I’m waiting on my bar speed tool to come so I can use some velocity based training (VBT) protocols for this block.
I’m excited because I feel like my limiting factor right now as it related to throwing velocity has been my power. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been but it really hasn’t transferred to the mound as much as I would like it to yet. So by changing my intent in the weight room to moving weights fast, rather than just moving super heavy weights my throwing velo should improve.
In addition to going to a VBT protocol for my next block I’m also going to be lifting three days per week instead of four.
As far as the sport specific portion of my training goes, I’m going to go to three testing days every two weeks instead of four. Reducing the volume in the weight room and the number of super intense throwing days should lead to better testing days and allow me to close in on my peak.
Stay tuned for another post later in the week and some throwing and VBT videos!
Thank you for following me on my journey to the show!
