It’s the start of week two on the Journey to the Show. Week one was great and I feel even more confident that I made the right decision.

I said I’d give some baselines to provide context for what I’m working towards. Going forward I will have a sidebar on my homepage to track these numbers, but for now here are a couple of them:

Body weight at the start: 211.4

After week 1: 212.8

Goal weight: 225

Best mound velocity: 94 mph

Goal velocity: 97 mph

Once the sidebar is up and running I will also include my strength and power numbers; both current and goal numbers. For now these are the main goals I have my eyes on. The velocity goal is what all of the other goals are building towards, and weight gain is the main one I’m focusing on during this hypertrophy training cycle. Since I’m not throwing at all for the next few weeks I have no updates on that front.

The hypertrophy cycle is fun so far but also a serious mental challenge. The protocol that I’m working with requires working to failure on the main lifts. Front squats and deadlifts are especially rough. It feels like my body just wants to give up about halfway through so it forces me to dig deep and remember why I’m putting myself through this.

However, its fun getting to do upper body hypertrophy work since it’s something I’ve never focused on before, and who doesn’t want bigger biceps?! This added muscle mass is for more than just show though as it will lead to greater strength and thus greater power potential.

As far as results so far, 1.4 lbs. is a solid start for week one. I’m not worried about body composition numbers since I’ve put a lot of thought into both training and diet and gotten a ton of input from people I trust. I’ve been eating tons of healthy food supplemented with whey protein, creatine monohydrate, collagen, and beet juice. And all of this within a 12 hour window each day.

I’ll be updating more later this week and the sidebar should be up by the end of the week. Thanks for checking in and following me on this journey!
