It’s the end of week 20!

Another solid week of training this week. The power phase that I’m in is really starting to pay off.

Power is definitely one of my areas of weakness. My strength numbers are plenty high, but my power numbers still need some work for sure. While these numbers aren’t the end all be all, my broad jump, lateral bound, and even mound velo do not reflect my strength levels.

So with that said it’s been great using a push band to measure my bar speed on all of my main lifts. I still want to test it against a Tendo unit, but for now just having an idea of the speed and being able to compare set to set is pretty cool.

This week the sets were 6×3 at a speed of 0.95 m/s. My weights were higher than I expected them to be based on the percentages that are typically associated with this speed, which was exciting. I’ve also added in more plyometric types of movements in this training block as well and I’m beginning to feel more explosive.

My plyo numbers continue to go up which is really encouraging and I know I’m getting close to putting it all together on the mound. Having intent is obviously really important when trying to throw as hard as possible, and I think the intent required to move the bar as fast as possible is helping me throw harder as well.

My numbers from the mound are still disappointing, but at this point it’s definitely turning into a mental thing. I had this issue last off season as well where I had a significant drop in mound velo and then one of the guys I was training with took me aside and basically told me to get out of my own head or no one would be able to help me get better. Within a week I was moving back up in velo.

The same thing is happening now so this coming week I am going to make it a point of emphasis to improve my mindset before training and during training. I’ll get better it’s just a matter of getting out of my own way.

Anyway, thanks for following me on my journey to the show and stay tuned for more updates this week!
