It’s the end of week five!
Another solid week of progress. It was my first full week back to throwing and I got to work with some heavy weight, so all around good week.
Now that I’m doing a strength cycle the loads are heavier and the reps are lower, which is closer to how I’m used to lifting than the hypertrophy cycle was.
Since my last post I’ve had my squat and bench press days. To be honest both days could have gone better but the first week tends to be like that for me as I acclimate to the new program. Especially now since I’m adding throwing back in my activity level and energy expenditure has increased which adds another challenge.
Luckily I don’t throw on Thursdays so all my effort can go toward squatting. The weight felt heavy this week but I made it through and as usual I’ve got a video:
As you can see the last couple reps were a struggle but I got it done.
Moving on to throwing.
The first few weeks back to throwing are fun but also usually a little frustrating to me because I want to get after it max effort but I know I’ve got to follow the plan and ease back into it.
This week I threw three days and made it back to 225 feet yesterday as I’m working off of percentages of my max long toss distance. I’ve got some video of one of the weighted ball drills from yesterday which are also done at a percentage of max effort:
Definitely some stuff I want to clean up with this delivery but the movement from my pec looks better than previously so that’s encouraging. Shoutout to Ben Brewster and Tread Athletics for helping me get this throwing program going and for the shirts as well!
I’m loving this process so far and I’m excited to keep improving. Thanks for following me on this journey and have a great weekend!
